How do I build a strong resume?
Your resume shows employers who you are and what you can do. Now you can save it right in JobStack, so it’s ready when you need it! Here’s are some helpful tips to build a resume that works.
Keep it clear
Use plain fonts and simple words, and call your past jobs what they really were. For example, use “Warehouse Associate” instead of “Logistics Specialist.” An employer should be able to understand your work in just a few seconds. Plus, be sure to check your spelling and formatting before you upload.
Show relevant experience
If you have worked in a warehouse, a kitchen, or on a job site, explain what you did there. One or two lines for each job is enough. Try to match your experience to the job you want, since employers look for this.
Lead with your top skills
Job titles and dates do not tell the whole story, so share what you have learned and what you do well. If you are forklift certified or ServSafe trained, list those skills near the top. Skills like these help you get noticed.
Include skills from other jobs
If you are new to this kind of work or want to explore new jobs, that’s great! Show how your other skills can help. For example, construction skills work well in a warehouse, and working fast in a restaurant helps at events. Be sure to say what you do well and how that will help in the job you want next.
Explain gaps between jobs
Employers like to see that you stay at a job. If you took time off between jobs, add a short note about why. You don’t need a long reason — just explain it in a few words.
Upload your resume in JobStack
When your resume is ready, add it to your JobStack profile. You can save up to three resumes on file.
- 1. Open JobStack and go to your Profile and tap Qualifications
- 2. Tap Resume
- 3. Upload a resume from your phone
- 4. Make sure it saved to your profile
Your resume stays saved in JobStack, so you don’t have to make a new one for each job. You can update it anytime your skills change.
